GravelBirken 100 and 200 run according to the NCF's laws and regulations in addition to Birken's own rules.

For competitors in GravelBirken 200:
All competitors must download correct GPS-track and follow the designated route.
Each competitor is responsible for ensurting they stay on the official GravelBirken course and that their equipment is in adequate condition to withstand extended hours of riding. 

For all competitors in GravelBirken 100 and 200:

  • Please note that general traffic rules must be followed, no roads are closed on the route. Support vehicles or other vehicles are not allowed.
  • All racers are obliged to stop and help in the event of an accident. Time deductions may be given for assistance in connection with injuries, where the situation can be documented against an accident log or similar.
  • Supporter vehicles are not permitted.   
  • You may not start using another person's entry/bib.
  • All help/passing must take place on the right side of the road, passing/help from moving vehicles is not allowed.
  • It is only permitted to receive technical assistance and/or assistance at designated food/drink and service stationsIt is completely forbidden to throw things outside the designated throwing zones. Littering may result in disqualification or additional time.
  • The organizers reserve the right to stop late racers from completing the race.
  • For your safety it is not allowd to use any form of audio during the race.

Backpack/clothing/Equipment GravelBirken

All participants, regardless of class, must carry a backpack during the entire race. There is no weight requirement for the backpack. The backpack must be visible, and can not be worn underneath clothing or bib. For safety reasons there are special rules for clothes and equipment that you must bring when participating in GravelBirken (some of the equipment can also be stored on the bike) :

  • Longsleeved jacket (wind-/water resistant)
  • Long trousers (wind-/water resistant)
  • Glowes/mittens with fingers
  • Buff headwear
  • Dry socks
  • Food
  • Tools
  • Bicycle pump
  • Hose kit (inner tube)
  • First aid kit
  • Mobile phone

Participants that does not follow these rules might be disqualified.

Equipment

  • You can use the following types of bikes: 
    Gravel bike, Road bike, Mountain bike, Hybrid or Cyclocross 
  • A CE-approved helmet is mandatory.
  • No post-mounted pace bars or pace wheels are allowed.
  • The rider must keep their hands on the handlebars, sit on the seat, and be propelled only by human power.
  • Simulated pace position, where the arms rest on the handlebars or the top of the fork, is prohibited.
  • Electric bikes are not allowed.
  • All bikes must comply with UCI 1.3.001 through 1.3.010.

Drafting - elite classes

  • Drafting in the elite classes is allowed within the same class, but prohibited between women and men.

Environment
Littering along the route is not allowed. Please bring your own litter to the nearest food station or use the drop zones along the course. Littering along the course can be penalized with 15 minutes added to your time.

Violating the rules
Participants violating the rules will be disqualified or given a time penalty.

Complaints
The complaint must be submitted in writing with a fee of NOK 300,- at the Race Office in Håkons Hall. The fee will be refunded if the complaint is approved by the jury.
Against race conditions: 15 minutes after the last competitor has crossed the finish line.
Against the list of results: 30 minutes after the list and results have been published.
