Backpacking means that the backpack must have straps over the shoulders and that the weight must be carried on the back.

The backpack symbolizes the king's son Haakon Haakonsen - read the story.

For safety reasons, the backpack must contain the following equipment/clothing:

  • Jacket and trousers (full-coverage and wind/water-repellent).
  • Mittens/gloves with long fingers
  • Hat, beanie or similar
  • Food
  • Simple cycling tools, tube(s) and pump/air cartridges

The backpack must weigh a minimum of 2 kg throughout the race.

The backpack must be worn over a cycling jersey or wind/rain jacket. It must always be visible and accessible.

Participants who has not got the requierd contents in their backpack before start, will not bee allowed to start until this is provided.
Packs will be checked.
Participants not complying with these requirements will be disqualified or given a time penalty.
If the participants have to put on a lot of the clothing/equipment throughout the race, due to bad weather conditions, the organizer will judge this with a common sense regarding the weight of the backpack.
